Who are we, where did we come from, why do we exist, and where are we going?
This project aims to visualize my thoughts on these ultimate questions. Recording, interpreting, and understanding the journey of human life and my own life is a highly significant task on a cosmic scale. I gather fragmentary knowledge, process it, and fill in the gaps with personal interpretations to make my distinctive narrative. Despite cognitive limits, humans relentlessly strive to understand our existence's meaning within the universe through our relationships with others and the external world. This series honors and celebrates these fleeting moments of existence. We exist as whole and real entities, embracing our entirety.

Title: Intersection of Moving Points

The Earth is merely a moving dot drifting in an expanding universe. According to the law of conservation of mass, not only our bodies but all elements that make up the Earth must have come from the outside, that is, from space. The water covering our planet's surface is delivered by ancient comets and asteroids and reminds us of our extraterrestrial origins. Our very existence is a testament to the interconnectedness of all matter across space and time. This interconnectedness is further evidenced by the theory of quantum entanglement, where particles remain connected across vast distances, influencing each other instantaneously. Thus, we are not just isolated beings but part of a complex, interconnected web that spans the entire universe.
Our consciousness, too, can be seen as a point within a point, in the sense that it can become distant enough to observe us objectively in the macroscopic world, and then close enough to see nothing but our personal bodily sensory experiences. Our perception always drifts between these, observing the universe. The ability to see within and out is the true wondrous gift of being a human.

Dark matter does not interact with electromagnetic forces, so it does not absorb, reflect, or emit light, making visual observation impossible. Consequently, the existence of dark matter can only be inferred through its gravitational effects on visible matter. According to current observations, the universe consists of approximately 4.84% ordinary matter, 25.8% dark matter, and 69.2% dark energy. Dark energy, 'anti-gravity', pushes galaxies apart and creates a state devoid of matter.
On the other hand, dark matter pulls matter together within galaxies. Although not yet proven, there are claims that dark matter doesn't exist but instead, there are primordial black holes, as well as claims that black holes absorb dark matter and become heavier. It is said that the enormous gravity of the enigmatic dark matter serves to hold fast-moving galaxies together, preventing them from scattering outside of galaxy clusters.
Thanks to the force that we cannot even perceive with our senses holding everything in place, we manage to believe that we will remain stable without flinging away.

The numerous small dots represent individual particles in various quantum states, while their overlapping nature mirrors how particles can exist in multiple states simultaneously. The straight and curvy lines could symbolize different possible paths or trajectories that particles might take, reminiscent of the concept of quantum tunneling. Quantum superposition is like a coin spinning so fast that it's both heads and tails at the same time until you look at it. In the quantum world, tiny particles can exist in multiple states or places simultaneously until they're observed or measured. This fascinating phenomenon suggests that reality is not fixed or determined until we interact with it and teaches us that the act of observation can influence reality. In other words, there is an interconnectedness between the observer and the observed. Simply by observing the world, we are physically changing the universe, and our very existence signifies our active participation on a cosmic scale.

Confluence refers to the point where multiple strands, especially streams of water, merge back into one.

After reading an interesting book on taxonomy, "Why Fish Don't Exist" by Lulu Miller, I was reminded of my previous work, a science fiction story called "Slippery, Moist." about future humans merging back into primordial algae. Seaweed, although it looks like a plant, is actually not a plant but a multicellular organism of the SAR supergroup, specifically a stramenopile. In extreme terms, it means it's closer to a paramecium than a plant. Earth's life forms continue to diversify and split into more species, but we don't see divided species merging back into one. I reinterpreted the idea of reversing this trend, into this abstract image. If all diverse species can merge back into one, maybe there would be less hatred and misunderstanding between different species.

According to the second law of thermodynamics, heat moves directionally from areas of high temperature to areas of low temperature. Conversely, it cannot move in the opposite direction. As time passes, entropy continues to increase. However, if entropy were to reach its maximum, life could not exist. In reality, the differentiation of living organisms is a process of becoming more organized, where entropy does not increase but rather decreases, moving towards greater order.
Life's ability to achieve greater order is possible because free energy enters from the outside world through metabolism, allowing life to maintain a state of low entropy. Our ability to receive external energy and perform metabolism is possible because the universe is not currently in a state of heat death, or thermal equilibrium. This is possible because the universe is expanding. Therefore, life phenomena are only possible in an expanding universe. In the universe as a closed system, entropy increases. However, living organisms are open systems that exist only by exchanging with the external environment. This proves how an integral part of the universe humans are.

The origin of life remains one of the greatest mysteries. As Louis Pasteur demonstrated, spontaneous generation is impossible; all living organisms arise from pre-existing life forms. Despite efforts to prove theories like spontaneous generation and chemical evolution, these ideas have been largely set aside due to their inherent challenges. Thus, the question of how the first organism came into existence remains unanswered.

So I Imagined a tiny living particle—an undiscovered progenitor of all species—at the heart of the primordial universe. Picture this particle spinning and dancing amidst a cosmic backdrop of giant seaweed leaves on a comet, reminiscent of a vibrant techno club. Then, 3.8 billion years ago, as this comet approached Earth, the particle's kinetic energy surged, transforming into high-energy particles. These particles collided with Earth's atmosphere, sparking chemical reactions that led to the formation of amino acids, ultimately giving rise to the first organism.

The idea that there may be a multiverse is a fascinating one. One might be so distant from ours that even light hasn’t traveled between us so that it had zero effect on us. One may have different physical constants, or, although unimaginable, one may have different mathematics from ours. The most intriguing concept is the multiverse theory, which suggests that due to wave-particle duality, a single element can diverge, leading to vastly different outcomes through chaos theory, resulting in countless diverse realities. While this idea is conveyed through numerous movies and novels as narrative examples, visualizing its principles abstractly is not easy. The best I could imagine is a mirror, with various geometric shapes overlapping to resemble a kaleidoscope, each shape representing a different universe within the vast multiverse. Each element overlaps or intersects in ways that blur boundaries or make distances indiscernible, aiming to show that multiple parallel realities are interconnected.

All phenomena are transient states that exist momentarily at a point in a large, continuous event. Natural phenomena are remarkably similar when viewed from the vast macroscopic perspective of the universe and the microscopic viewpoint of a single cell seen through a microscope. A single cell, an egg, undergoes numerous cell divisions to grow into a large ostrich, or a small seed divides into countless cells yet ultimately remains a single tree. In other words, we can break down a tiny molecule into atoms, further split them into protons, and divide those into quarks, while also grouping our bodies, including microorganisms that could be several times the number of our cells, simply as one 'self'. Our universe is said to be a concept that encompasses everything we can perceive. If so, from an extremely macroscopic view, everything in the universe would be a single entity that we have temporarily separated and categorized.

This is an abstract depiction of the world through the lens of string theory. At its core, string theory posits that the universe is composed not of zero-dimensional points or particles, but of one-dimensional strings. These strings are the fundamental building blocks of all particles, and they manifest as different particles based on their unique vibration patterns and frequencies.

If human eyes could perceive not just visible light, but the intricate patterns of 11-dimensional theoretical strings perhaps we could see all the intricate vibrations of matter. We could observe gravitational waves resonating within the cosmic microwave background. We might be able to observe black holes that distort space and time so that we can find wormholes to take us time traveling or even glimpse the multiverse. While this remains an impossible hypothesis as visualizing such phenomena is beyond humane capability, it is a fascinating concept to ponder.
